This is a Ben Winans photograph of the Decoration Day parade on May 30, 1902.
The Brookville Band is in the foreground with the GAR or Civil War veterans behind
in their black suits ("GAR" stands for "Grand Army of the Republic").
They had become old men by then; but they were young
men when the Civil War ended in 1865. On the far right of the photo is
the building that housed Ben Winans' Printery in 1902. |
