Possum Hollow School

This school, typical of the period, bore the most picturesque name of any in the county.  The origin of the name is unknown, but it well served the pupils who lived in the area along Big Cedar Creek and north of the hamlet of Cedar Grove.  One of the teachers there was the late Alfred BROWN, the father of Mrs. David (Marge) BARRETT.  BROWN went on to become a county office holder and a political power in the state.  He was a part owner, together with Ownie BUSH and Frank MCKINNEY, of the Louisville Colonels baseball team.  His local business interests were in the A.B. Beverage Company.  This company, located on lower High Street, survives and is under the management of his daughter, Marge BARRETT.
