Petersen
School

Because
of its fancy architecture and its many appointments, this brick building, built in 1902,
was known as the Cadillac of Country Schools.
The land was given to the township for school purposes by Willard PETERSENS
grandfather. That and the fact that for a
time, more than half of the pupils were children of Mr. PETERSEN was the reason given for
naming the school after him. Some of the
family names on the pupil roster were: MISCHEL, REUTER, STANG, RISSELMAN, STURWOLD,
MEEKER, PULSKAMP, HOFER, WIRTZ, WILLIAM, and DOERFLEIN.
Some of the teachers who held forth here were: Edith BUSH, Roy ALLEY, Walter KREMP,
Leo PULSKAMP, Dorothy ORSCHEL and Helenrose HOEL SELM.
The School closed in 1947.
