Laurel’s Seminary was founded in 1837 as a place of learning for only those students who could afford to pay tuition as contrasted to the free public schools.  The three story building, the largest in Laurel, served as a high school upon closing of the Seminary.  It was retired upon the erection of the Laurel High School building, which was recently vacated (1989).  In that year, the Laurel High students were transferred to the new Franklin County High School located in Brookville, IN.
