St.
Michael School

Pictured
here is the first of three schools to bear this name.
Originally built in 1872, this building contained but four rooms with two grades to
each room. Guardian of the German language
and culture, this school was financed by St. Michael Parish and staffed by the Sisters
from the Oldenburg, Indiana convent. A
second, more modern school was erected on the same site in 1912. It was recognized that this second school building
had become antiquated by 1950 and plans were made for a new addition and complete
remodeling of the existing structure. The
newly remodeled building was completed and ready for classes in 1956.
